Classic Center Arena

A FLEXIBLE HVAC SYSTEM FOR A MULTI-USE FACILITY.

The Classic Center Arena has the ability to transform into a hockey rink, basketball court, and even a motocross or concert venue, but each have very different environmental needs. Tebarco Mechanical found a way to meet them all.

Balancing mechanical setpoints to regulate conditions that maintain ice and occupant comfort required extremely flexible HVAC, mechanical, and conditioning systems. Tebarco’s teams worked with Modigent’s IC Mechanical to overcome delays caused by underground rock to install HVAC and plumbing systems on time.

Solutions:

• Installed all plumbing and waterside systems of the HVAC equipment, providing chilled water, heating water, condenser water, and condensate piping for the entire facility.

• Installed all pipe, valves, and fitting for air handling units (AHUs), energy recovery units (ERUs), fan coil units (FCUs), variable air volume systems (VAVs), and constant air volume systems (CAVs).

• Provided essential heating and makeup water, tightly integrated with the BAS to allow for seamless adjustments and optimal performance for ice and non-ice events.

• Installed two 560-ton Chillers; three, 1 MBH Natural Gas Boilers; three Mechanical Pump Skids; a Heat Exchanger; and a 1,120-ton Cooling Tower.

• Coordinated the various trades to maintain project momentum and utilized a detailed Building Information Modeling (BIM) system to create accurate installation specifications and streamline field coordination.

• Tebarco’s Senior Project Manager, Martin Hartsfield, leveraged Modigent’s national network of resources, such as IC Mechanical’s Tampa team, to expedite implementation during critical phases of the project.

Business Outcomes:

On-Time Delivery – The project is on track for a January 22, 2025 completion date, with events already scheduled for December 2024.

Energy Savings – The efficient HVAC systems will contribute to long-term energy savings for the arena.

Mechanical Versatility – The mechanical systems are designed for seamless adjustments between ice and non-ice events, ensuring the facility can quickly transition between different uses.

Building Efficiency – The Classic Center Arena will operate efficiently and automatically meet the diverse needs of a multi-event venue.
